Sparks Leaders

Sparks seeks to ignite children’s curiosity and builds a foundation for knowing Jesus Christ. With resources for kids and leaders, Sparks builds a foundation of wisdom for knowing Christ. That foundation is built through three years of programming where children learn about all the major Bible characters from Genesis to Revelation. Kindergarten – 2nd grade children will enjoy three segments of Sparks each week. The unique design and strategy of Large Group Time, Small Group Time, and Game Time combine for an exciting ministry that builds a strong foundation for Sparkies.

Note: We use the “All Together Method.” This means we don’t use a separate book for each grade but rather use 1 book each year to complete together. We rotate through 3 different books so a book isn’t repeated for a child in their 3 years of Sparks.

Age Characteristics

Sparkies are typically between the ages of five and eight and are in kindergarten, 1st, or 2nd grade. You will quickly notice that they desire to be “big kids” and have a great ability to memorize, but keep in mind they are literal learners. As you prepare lessons and explain verses, use concrete terms and avoid symbolism or metaphors.

Sparkies like stories but it is important to help them differentiate between what is real and what is fiction.  That is why you will see the term “Bible Biography” throughout the Sparks material. We want children to understand that people in the Bible are real and the events of their lives really happened.

Understanding characteristics of Sparks children will help you minister to them each week.
